Boise is known as an outdoor enthusiast’s dream. But what if that outdoor enthusiast is only 3 feet tall and needs somewhere safe to climb and explore? Thankfully, Boise also has amazing playgrounds and parks for smaller ones to enjoy. Whether they are 13 or 3, this list of a few of our favorite playgrounds will help keep them entertained.
Ann Morrison Park
Ann Morrison Park has one of the largest playgrounds in Boise, which is fitting since the park itself is 153 acres. The accessible playground is fitting for a wide range of ages, with smaller and larger play structures available. The playground is located directly next to the Greenbelt, so it is easy to hop on or off from a bike ride or walk. If you happen to visit in the warmer months, then you can wrap up playtime with a visit to the famous Ann Morrison fountain. The fountain was overhauled in summer 2021 to include more children-friendly features including a lighting display.
Cassia Park
One of the newest playgrounds constructed in Boise, Cassia Park is an accessible playground that has features for everyone. Your kiddos will love the ability to swing together in the friendship swing and the double oodle swing. The We-Go-Round is a safe (but still very fun!) merry-go-round that every child can enjoy thanks to its accessibility. There is a tall tower for the older children to climb, and a smaller play structure for the toddlers to conquer. Do not forget to bring your family’s sand toys—this playground includes a large sandpit that kids love to dig in.
Kristin Armstrong Park
This playground is less about the play structures (it is your typical playground) and more about the location. Kristin Armstrong Park has the Boise River and Greenbelt on one side and the MK Nature Center on the other. Explore all that MK Nature Center has to offer, including a giant bird’s nest and plenty of fish to see, then wrap up your outing at the playground to get all that extra energy out before heading home.
Peppermint Playground
Located in South Boise, Peppermint Park has what almost every child wants: a school bus. It is not a real school bus, unfortunately, but kiddos will enjoy climbing and pretending to drive this big yellow bus. Peppermint Park has a large, towering play structure complete with jungle gyms, slides, interactive elements, and even a dinosaur “fossil” to climb. The rubber playground tiles help to keep everyone safe and a dedicated structure for little ones provides an easy place to play.
These are only a few of the numerous playgrounds that dot the City of Trees, and this does not even include all of Treasure Valley! We would love to hear your favorite spot to take the family so please let us know in the comments.
