If you’ve ever dreamed of conquering the trails on a mountain bike, there’s no better place to do so than Boise! The City of Trees has miles and miles of mountain biking trails for expert and novice riders to conquer.
Polecat Loop
The Polecat Trail system contains more than seven miles of singletrack trails that wind through the city. You’ll be able to catch some breathtaking views of the Treasure Valley and the Boise ridegeline, but you also might spot some wildlife including deer, coyotes, and eagles.
Beginner mountain bikers will find these trails have relatively easy grades.
The longest and the most popular loop is Polecat Loop Trail, a 5.8 mile loop. If you’re searching for a shorter ride, then combine part of Polecat Loop with Doe Ridge Trail or Quick Draw Trail. Want a longer option? Add on Peggy’s Trail and Chukar Butte Trail.
Around the Mountain at Bogus Basin
You’ll find all kinds of users on the Around the Mountain trail—hikers, bikers, photographers. Around the Mountain is a 6.4 mile loop that encircles the Bogus Basin Ski Resort.
You’ll encounter some switchbacks and have to ascend the mountain in areas, but you’ll also find some great areas with plenty of shade and water. This is an incredibly popular trail, so make sure that you always conquer it counterclockwise, especially on busier days!
The trail takes you across ski runs and you’ll even be able to catch a glimpse of Idaho City and the Sawtooths on the backside.
Sidewinder
If you’d rather test your fitness with a short, intense trail, head to the Sidewinder. A couple of steep climbs highlight this trail, but the reward is completely worth it as there is plenty of great views and fun downhill as the payoff for hard work. This 1.3 mile trail can become crowded, so you’ll want to ride it during less busy times of the day like early in the morning.
